Catching a few rays …

My dad went out to check the mail about noon today and when he came back in, he picked up his binoculars and headed back out the door.   My nephew followed him and came back a few minutes later to report that “PawPaw saw a white deer”.   I finished eating my lunch quickly and ran to get my camera.  The deer wasn’t really white at all, he had found a sunny spot back in the trees and brush to take a rest and the sun reflecting off him gave him a pale appearance.  While I was getting my camera, dad had come back in to get his camera and we went back out to see if it was still there.   Dad was content to get a couple of quick shots from the driveway, but I decided to see if I could make my way a little bit closer without starling him.   I’d probably closed about 1/3 of the distance when I heard shotguns being fired in the distance from my left.   He looked in that direction and then back at me.  He got up and stood watching for just a second.  To my right, there was an open field and beyond that the road.  Before I could get a clear shot of him standing, a car came around the curve and down the far side of that field … he took one look in that direction and then took off in the opposite direction.  I sure hope he didn’t run right into those hunters.
