I started to post this as a “mystery object” to see if anyone might guess what I had decided to photograph.  I photographed it in the blue glow that comes from my laptop screen when the screen saver is displayed, but added a bit of fill light using a remote flash bounced toward the brush from the side.  It is a round makeup brush with long, soft bristles.  Most of the length of the bristles is reddish brown, the tips are pale … a creamy off-white.
