Rocks on Spruce Knob …

There’s quite a bit of rock on Spruce Knob … and quite a bit of it is loose rock … from large pieces to gravel sized pieces.   About midway along the trail on the western side, there was a “slide” of rock down the slope.  I noticed a stack of rocks … a cairn … and then another and another and another.  Likely at some point in the distant past a hiker stopped and built one and since then others have done the same.  I’m sure with time and weather they topple over and others come along and rebuild them making connections to those who have walked this way over the years as well as those that will over the years to come.  (The camera is angled down the slope, it was steeper than it appears to be in the photo.)
