Base camp for the latest adventure …

I so enjoyed my last big adventure and had been thinking about another trip to that area and what I might want to do … where to photograph the sunrise or sunset and what season.   I had been watching the fall foliage forecast for a couple of weeks and watching the long-range weather forecast.  On Thursday evening it was looking like this weekend just might be my best bet.  There were no accommodations of any kind in the area, but just 2 – 2 1/2 hours east of the locations I wanted to visit, I found a great deal in a historic hotel.  So I devised a plan that had me using that as my base camp for an all day excursion … all day meaning leaving the comfort of my room before 5 am and returning about 10 pm.  The Hotel Strasburg is in Strasburg, VA.  The 4-story addition was added to the house in 1902 and was used as a hospital.  The hotel also owns 2 other old homes, Chandler House is to the left in the photo below and is where I stayed.  I headed out with a bag of trail mix,  some gluten-free PB&J bars, a bottle of water and a diet Dr. Pepper.  My adventure took me to Grant County, WV where I paused to watch the sunrise followed by a short stop at the Mt. Storm Power Plant.  Then I headed north past Deep Creek Lake up to Grantsville, MD.  I stopped for a bit at Deep Creek Lake on my way back to WV.  I drove through the middle of the Leaf Peepers Festival in Davis, but stopped for a bit at Canaan Valley.   I was getting hungry, so I had a late lunch at the Front Porch Restaurant at Seneca Falls before going over to the Discovery Center and taking photographs of the rocks and a few climbers making their way up.   With the sun heading lower in the sky, I headed to Spruce Knob where I had quite a bit of company to watch the sunset with.  Finally, I headed back to Strasburg and collapsed in my bed.   Photos and stories will follow over the next days …
