Canaan Valley … Dolly Sods …

The day before I headed out on this particular trip, I’d checked the West Virginia Division of Forestry’s foliage report.  They had reported the Dolly Sods area at near peak and the surrounding areas at about 50%.  I continued to backtrack from Deep Creek Lake toward Davis, WV.  The annual Leaf Peepers Festival was underway in Davis with quite a crowd.  The first view heading out of Davis (facing east) was breathtaking.  There’s wasn’t a spot on the hills that hadn’t been touched with Autumn’s paintbrush.  Perhaps one of these days I will become bold enough to just pull over and make use of any available space to take photos, but there simply wasn’t any safe spots that I saw to pull over and capture the glorious sight.   There are a couple of commercial spots with parking areas, but with the commercialism come signs, utility lines, etc that obscure the view.   So I headed on down to Canaan Valley State Park.

The first image is looking west from the Nature Center.  The second is looking west towards Dolly Sods.
