Something prickly … and something soft …

I took a walk around Centennial Park in Nashville (where the replica of The Parthenon is located).  I assume that this scrub along the pond is deciduous and would have leaves hiding these thorns most of the year.  I have no clue what those leaves might look like or what this particular scrub might be.  It was a little more than 5 feet tall … the image is the upper most tip … and was about 3-4 feet in diameter with an overall roundish shape.

There were lots of ducks in the pond that appeared to be quite tame and accustomed to be fed.  They would flock to the edge of the pond close to where anyone stood.  There were also several curly feathered geese (Sebastopol geese?).  It was actually rather hard to get photographs of them as the moved so close that I had look down to see them.
