Week 2 – Dogwood Photography Challenge 2019

The prompt for Week 2 of the challenge was:

Composition: Rule of Thirds Motion. You already know what the rule of thirds is, now is the time to use it. Use Rule of Thirds to show motion in your picture.

I thought of a few different ideas for things I could easily photograph in motion.  The snowy weather ruled out some of them and having so many things packed away ruled out others.  I had purchased some incense a few years ago when I wanted to first play with photographing smoke (https://secondglanceimages.net/2014/02/24/where-theres-smoke/).  I had sat them aside when I cleared out the cabinet where I had stored the leftovers when I was done before.  I was glad today that I didn’t throw them a few weeks ago.   Before I had been focused on just the smoke, but today felt a need to include more in the overall composition.

    1. Thank you! I set my Nikon SB-700 flash about 3 feet to the right. About 3 feet to the left I had propped up my portable screen against the wall to bounce some light back. I started at full flash, but ended up at -0.7. i still was not happy with the lighting … I think moving the light lower so that it wouldn’t light the table top quite so much on the right might have been better.
