Capped with snow …

Late yesterday afternoon it started as a drizzle and then changed to snow as the temperatures dropped.  We ended up with about an inch of icy snow and a temperature in the low twenties by this morning.   After the sun had gotten up in the sky enough to thaw my brick steps a bit, I put on layers of clothes and headed outside with my camera.   I got lots of photos of the birds at my feeders … wrens, goldfinches, juncos, titmouses, and even a male cardinal.  It is easiest to photograph the birds from the porch … most don’t seem to mind if I’m there … but in the morning, that means the sun is behind them making the images a little less than pleasing.  I walked  out the drive to try to capture a few shots from the other perspective, but had little luck with that.  I did notice that the sweet gum balls hanging in the trees were capped with snow.  This one must have been about 15 feet in the air.
