The balloons were launching while the sun was still well above the horizon … high enough that the window of opportunity for capturing a photograph while the sun was eclipsed by the passing balloon was very small.   That there was a pretty decent wind at that level, didn’t help much either.   I was disappointed when I previewed the images on the camera’s LCD, but after a little post processing, I rather like it.
