A couple of hours before sunset I headed to Spruce Knob. I decided on the drive up the mountain that I wasn’t going to bother with the observation tower. I figured I would have a better foreground if I walked a little way along the Whispering Spruce Trail. I had met quite a few vehicles on my way up and thought the mountain top might be empty. There were only a handful of cars there when I arrived, but quite a few when I left just after sunset. I staked out a spot on a large rock to wait for the sunset. A few people stopped and chose rocks of their own while others passed on by. These first couple of photos are from about 90 minutes before sunset. The clouds were plentiful, casting shadows on the rolling hills below.
